南京四明眼镜店有限责任公司创建于1937年5月,是由史云林等四位浙江宁波人合股创立的,迄今已有70多年的历史。“四明”的名称来源于四人合股,加之过去人们称戴眼镜者为四眼,希望四只眼睛都明亮,故取名为四明眼镜店。四明从创建开始就坐落于南京的太平南路商业中心,当时的服务对象主要是达官贵人和商界名流,当时的国民党参谋总长顾祝同等均是四明的常客,在1943年---1947年的4年间四明就开设了三家分店,当时在同行内和社会上就享有较高的声誉,1956年公司合营后,改称为国营四明眼镜店。八十年代后期至九十年代初,是四明创建后发展最辉煌的时期。

近几年南京城市飞速发展,城市改造簇新不断,四明也几经搬迁,但都从未远离过她的发源地点,现在已成为南京新街口商业圈不可缺少的一个亮点,在70多年的经营中,四明以品质求生存,以品牌求发展,每年都获得省市部委颁发的各种荣誉,在2004年通过了ISO9001:2000质量体系认证,同年成为首家通过国家质量技术监督局测评,获得“生产经营许可证”的企业,2006年四明被国家商务部首批认定为“中华老字号”眼镜专业名店,2008年荣获江苏省著名商标,由此更是在同行中树立了企业龙头形象。
