无Google账号的用户仍可以直接观看Youtube中的视频，但无法上传视频。注册用户则可以无限数量上传视频。当视频多次被举报，经过审查，核实后，可能将具有暴力，情爱的内容定为“18岁以上注册用户可以观看”，而色情内容以及侵犯版权的内容（比如仍在上映或发行影碟的电影，电视剧或动画片）将会被删除。

2006年11月，Google公司以16.5亿美元收购了YouTube，并把其当做一间子公司来经营。
