1949年，台湾正处在积极的战后复原工作，刚从台北工业学校(台北科技大学前身)毕业的三位年轻人：廖铭昆先生、林书鸿先生与郑信义先生，抱着满腔热情与理想，决定合伙创业，以新台币五百元资本，成立长春人造树脂厂，为长春企业集团播下了种子。长春三位创办人以无私的心胸，日夜精励努力，长久合作无间，历经六十余载寒暑而不变。
长春的主要产品是使用木粉与自产之石碳酸树脂混练，生产电木粉，成为一家生产塑胶的工厂。三年后，尿素成形材料亦开发成功，使台湾热硬化性塑胶开始进入取代进口的阶段。
1953年，长春还有一关系台湾经济发展的产品－耐水合板接着用尿素胶水研制成功，其优良的耐水功能，使台湾制造的合板品质大幅提升，开创台湾一度称霸世界的合板王国，为台湾争取外汇，而长春亦以此进一步奠定未来蓬勃发展的基础。
1964年，长春石油化学公司成立，这是长春企业集团的第二家核心公司，利用苗栗出产的天然气生产甲醇。
1979 年，大连化学公司成立，生产醋酸乙烯单体，这是长春企业集团的第三家公司。
目前长春集团除上述三家核心公司之外，另成立数十家关连公司。除台湾以外，亦分别在中国大陆、马来西亚、印尼、新加坡等地设有生产据点，拥有产品上百种，包括泛用化学品、合成树脂、热硬化塑胶及高性能工程塑胶、电子材料、半导体用化学品等。

Changchun's main product is to use wood powder and its own stone carbonate resin to mix, produce bakelite powder, and become a plastic factory. Three years later, the successful development of urea forming materials made Taiwan's thermosetting plastics enter the stage of replacing imports. In 1953, another product related to Taiwan's economic development, water-resistant plywood, was successfully developed in Changchun with urea glue. Its excellent water-resistant function greatly improved the quality of plywood made in Taiwan, created a plywood kingdom once dominated by Taiwan, and strived for foreign exchange for Taiwan. Changchun also laid a foundation for future vigorous development. In 1964, Changchun petrochemical company was founded, which is the second core company of Changchun enterprise group. It uses the natural gas produced by Miaoli to produce methanol. In 1979, Dalian Chemical Company was founded to produce vinyl acetate monomer, which is the third company of Changchun enterprise group. At present, in addition to the above three core companies, Changchun group has established dozens of other related companies.
