埃尔夫的历史可追溯到1939年7月14日对法国Saint Marcet油田的发现。发展至今天，埃尔夫所属的集团是全球第五大石油和天然气生产商，其业务包括上游（原油和天然气的勘探生产、天然气和电力）、下游（炼油与销售，贸易与运输）和化工。

1997年，埃尔夫建立了华南较早国家甲级调油厂，并拥有自己的码头，128米长的专用码头可停泊5000吨级船舶。

2012年，埃尔夫中国增加了新的灌装线及其它设备。

2013-2014年，埃尔夫中国将进行工厂大规模扩建，以满足业务发展需求。

埃尔夫在中国的生产厂具备ISO 9001质量管理体系认证、ISO 14001环境管理体系认证及OHSAS 18001职业健康与安全管理体系认证，同时更获得ISO/TS 16949质量管理体系认证。该标准由美、德、法、意四国汽车工业部门联合起草，满足美国三大汽车厂及欧洲七大汽车厂的严格质量要求。
