宁夏银行成立于1998年10月28日，是由宁夏回族自治区、银川市两级政府及企业入股组建的一家股份制商业银行。

2009年11月26日，宁夏银行小企业信贷中心成立，成为全国较早具备准法人性质的小企业专营机构。2009年12月8日，宁夏银行西安分行开业，较早在西北城市商业银行中跨省（区）设立分支机构。2011年4月28日，宁夏银行天津分行开业，跨区域经营战略进一步推进。
