昆明电缆集团股份有限公司的前身是昆明电缆厂。昆明电缆厂在建立现代企业制度的过程中，于1996年12月组建成立了昆明电缆有限责任公司；1999年12月，昆明电缆有限责任公司变更为昆明电缆股份有限公司；2009年9月，昆明电缆股份有限公司整体更名为昆明电缆集团股份有限公司。
昆明电缆集团股份有限公司在发展历程中，始终瞄准和吸纳国际先进的装备与技术，走质量效益型的发展道路，把科学技术与严谨的现代科学管理有机结合，走过了一条自强不息的发展道路。成立至今，经历了扩建、续建以及大规模的技术改造和对装备的调整、更新，先后从英国、美国、瑞典、奥地利、芬兰等国家以及从中国科学院、上海、台湾等地引进和装备了具有国际先进水平的生产线及检测设备。
2016年4月起，昆明电缆集团股份有限公司整体搬迁至昆明市昆明新城高新技术产业基地魁星街1766号，原址“昆明市西山区春雨路615号”已不再进行生产。新厂区占地面积508亩，搬迁新址后，企业基础设施、工艺布局和生产设备等方面的水平均比以前大幅提升。

After the relocation of the new site, the level of enterprise infrastructure, process layout and production equipment has been greatly improved.
