公司位于武夷山市桐木村庙湾，武夷山国家级自然保护区和武夷山世界自然遗产地的核心区内。这里是红茶始祖“正山小种红茶”的发源地，上世纪40年代，当代茶圣吴觉农和茶界泰斗张天福就曾在这里与江元勋先生的祖父江润梅先生一道为发展复兴“正山小种红茶”而默默的耕耘着。正山小种红茶是世界红茶的鼻祖，至今已有400余年的历史；她是红茶中的佼佼者，以其卓越的品质征服国内外市场，备受茶者的喜爱。

正山小种红茶最早于1604年由荷兰商人带到欧洲，后进入英国皇室，并成为英国皇室的御用饮品，据称英国女皇起床后的第一件事便是喝一杯来自桐木关的正山小种红茶。皇室的宠爱，还使正山小种红茶掀起了如今风靡欧洲的“下午茶”风尚。正山小种红茶也是明清两朝政府出口创汇的拳头产品，大约在清乾隆后期，中国出口的红茶中标有“正山小种红茶（Wuyi Bohea Black Tea）”牌子的占中国所有出口红茶的85%。庞大的贸易量不仅仅造成了英国对华贸易的巨大逆差，更成为1840年鸦片战争的导火索之一。正山小种红茶还是世界红茶鼻祖，先后产生了闻名世界的祁门红茶、阿萨姆红茶、锡兰红茶等。祁门红茶的产生得益于1876年从崇安县（现在的武夷山市）告老还乡的皖籍县令余干臣，他将正山小种红茶的树种、栽植技术、制作技术等都带到了安徽祁门山区，产生了祁门红茶；阿萨姆红茶、锡兰红茶等则是由当时在桐木关传教的欧洲传教士将正山小种红茶的茶树种以及懂得栽种、制作正山小种红茶的茶农带到印度后实验制作成功的。

正山茶业致力于复兴正山小种红茶。公司的“元正”牌正山小种红茶获得国家第一批“原产地标志”注册，获得“福建省著名商标”、福建省名牌农产品、“全国放心茶协推荐品牌”等荣誉称号；得益于武夷山国家级自然保护区内生态完好的茶山，产品已经连续16年获得德国BCS、日本JAS、美国NOP有机茶认证。

早在2004年，江元勋曾尝试用桐木关的茶芽制作绿茶，可惜当年的实验并未获得满意的效果，但使用正山小种茶树的茶芽制茶是传统正山小种红茶制作工艺数百年来头一次尝试，为来年金骏眉的诞生埋下了伏笔。
