文华学院前身——“华中科技大学文华学院”，是2003年5月经教育部批准的普通全日制高校，由武汉美联地产有限公司与华中科技大学共同举办。2014年5月，教育部批准学校转设为独立设置的民办普通本科学校，更名为“文华学院”。

学校现有普通全日制在校学生14000余人，设置了本科专业37个、专科专业10个，涵盖工、管、文、法、经、艺术6大学科门类，初步形成“工学为主，多学科协调发展”的学科专业发展格局。学校面向全国27个省、市招生。学校还与美国、英国、澳大利亚等国家的多所著名高校建立了校际合作关系。
