澳门大学于1981年成立，前身为私立东亚大学。建校以来，澳门大学已培养学生超过两万六千人，服务于社会各界。

澳门大学现有学生9,400多名，设有人文学院、工商管理学院、教育学院、健康科学学院、法学院、社会科学学院、科技学院、中华医药研究院及荣誉学院，开办学士、硕士、博士等约130多个学位课程，授课语言以英语为主，部分课程以中、葡或日语授课。
